Steve Jobs

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve

Those words, written on 24 AUG 2011, sent a shudder that shook the globe. I am not going to ‘read between the lines’. Others can do that all they like.

I could write a tome on how Steve made the world a better place for all of us. All I wish to add is this. Look around you and think this: What in your immediate life has been touched by Steve Jobs?

Do you have any idea how many businesses (AKA places that provide a living for thousands of people) have been spawned by Apple? Think about that, dear reader. Hint: Think of where you will find uses and connections for just the iPod? Think automobiles, treadmills, ... music. If you’re not sure what that means then you need to get out more.

Apple has been in my DNA since the early 80’s, beginning with the Apple II. This was followed by Apple computer after Apple computer. I still have a ‘beige box’ in my garage in New Mexico. It probably still works. Today I have a 24-inch iMac, a 17-inch MBPro, an iPhone4 and an iPad2.

Years ago I was following an APPL (stock) blog (or something similar) when the iPhone was about to debut. One poster noted what a stupid move this was on Apple’s part. Have you ever seen the show
Overhauling? It is a program where someone’s much loved old car is taken from them under dubious circumstances and then restored magnificently. The owner is then presented with his or her ‘overhauled’ car. It’s great to watch how this is done.

The point being that Apple can (and does) take an existing device, the mobile phone in this case, and improve it (overhaul it) beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Most businesses’s settle for ‘good enough’. Apple never has. Apple sets the Gold Standard for everyone else to follow, like it or not.

Apple has always given us services and devices that we did not know we needed and now cannot live without. What other business can make that claim?

There are those who have nothing better to do than try and distort the truth that is Apple. Try as they might, Apple is a success historically unmatched in this world. Apple currently has more cold cash on hand that most countries including the US of A. So, bitch all you want, but not bad for two guys who seeded the Apple tree by tinkering in their garage.

Oh, and while banks (and others) are laying off 3,500 employee’s at a time, Apple is ‘adding on’. See
this.

Steve, thank you for your vision, innovation and dedication for staying the course. You have truly made the world a better place. I wish you the best.
